About Me

Emily Dawes LMFT #152986

I graduated with my Masters in Clinical Counseling from Palo Alto University in 2021 and became a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with the belief that therapy is one of the most powerful acts of self-care a person can choose. I have worked in numerous mental health settings at varying levels of care and have experience working with individuals across the lifespan and with couples and families.

In our sessions you can expect me to be supportive, collaborative, open-minded and direct. I believe that therapy should reflect your unique circumstances and goals should feel practical and suited to you, rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. Whether you’re navigating challenges related to ADHD, trauma, life transitions, anxiety, depression, burnout, self-esteem, identity struggles, difficulties in relationships or simply looking for a place to process your emotions and make sense out of what you’re experiencing, I would be happy to support you along the way.

Approaches

My approach to therapy is collaborative. Together we will work on goals that feel authentic and practical for you. I am a trauma-informed therapist and use a blend of CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing and person-centered approaches to support you. In our sessions we may use CBT to identify patterns and deconstruct unhelpful thoughts, DBT to build skills to support in communication and emotional regulation, and motivational interviewing to support in strengthening your own voice and motivation for change. It is my belief that at the core of effective therapy is a strong and trusting therapeutic relationship. It is my goal to create a space where you feel seen, supported and understood.
